Bed and breakfasts in the region of Basilicata
There are many things to see and do in Basilicata (or Lucania, as it is also called). Visit the characteristic historical centers, enjoy the rugged countryside, relax on the sandy beaches or visit the mountains. In the most isolated parts of this region you can still see evidence of times long gone by. Basilicata, a very mountainous region, is home to many Greek ruins, medieval abbeys, Norman castles and picturesque towns. Matera is perhaps the most fascinating town to visit; springing out of an arid and barren landscape this town is home to the famous “Stones of Matera”, which are a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site. The largest and most populated city in this region is Potenza, an ancient city with various noteworthy monuments to visit in its historical centre. Basilicata is also home to several nature reservations including the National Park of Pollino, the National Park of the Agri Valley, the Regional Park of Gallipoli Cognato, the Dolomites Park and the Regional park of Murgia Materana. The most popular seaside resorts are those in Maratea, on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and Metaponto, Scanzano Jonico, Policoro, Pisticci and Nova Siri on the Ionian coast.
