Gorizia The province of Gorizia forms part of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and has around 141,000 inhabitants. Located in North East Italy, Gorizia borders with Slovenia in the East, with Udine in the West and with Trieste in the South East, whilst the southern area of the province is on the Adriatic Coast. The rivers Isonzo and Timavo run through the province. There are 25 municipalities including Gorizia, Monfalcone, Ronchi dei Legionari, Grado, Cormons, Staranzano, Gradisca d’Isonzo, and San Canzian d’Isonzo. There are many nature reserves in this area, the Doberdò Lakes, the Plessiva Forest and the Piuma Forest are just three examples of these and are home to various endangered species. Places of interest to tourists are the Castle, the Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Church of Saint Ignatius and the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the History of Art Museum and the Great War Museum in Gorizia, the Fort and Great War theme park in Monfalcone and the Redipuglia Sanctuary.
