Latina The province of Latina is in the South of Lazio. The local economy is based on industry (many large industries operate in and around Latina), and tourism. Latina has many coastal resorts, especially along the Circeo coastline, in Sabaudia, Sperlonga, Gaeta and the islands of Ponza and Ventotene. This region is also home to several nature reserves, such as the National Park of Circeo, the Lepini Mountains Park and the Mount Orlando Park in Gaeta, are all real havens of tranquillity and natural beauty. Historically, Latina was the destination of choice of Roman Emperors and nobility. Even today the remains of many ancient Roman villas can still be seen, for example Villa Tiberio in Sperlonga. There are also many fine examples of medieval architecture in the area, most notably the Abbey in Fossanova and the Itri and Fondi castles. The food and wine in this region are also excellent, many dishes are made with lentils, broccoli, olives and other seasonal produce and a particularly good local wine is Moscato di Terracina.
