Bed and breakfasts in the region of Lombardy

Lombardy Lombardy is one of the few Italian regions without a coastline. Lombardy borders Switzerland in the North and extends down to the Po Plain. Although entirely landlocked, Lombardy has three large and very beautiful lakes, which are Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, and Lake Garda. Lombardy is full of beautiful cites and landscapes and the incredible villas perched above the lakes are very characteristic of this area. Lombardy is also the most populated region in Italy and has many modern and profitable industries and a large scale agricultural production. In fact Lombardy is a very important financial center for the country as a whole which depends on its production. This region holds some of the finest works of art and architectural wonders in all of Italy. To name but a few there is the cathedral and theater in Milan, the Carthusian Monastery of Pavia, the Bridal Chamber of the Castle of St. George in Mantua, the historical center of Bergamo Alta and the Viscount’s Castle in Pavia. This region is also famous for being the birthplace of Virgil, Manzoni, Monteverdi, Stradivari, Donizzetti, and many other important figures from Italian history. The region is dominated by the Padana plains which have incredibly fertile soil and have helped make this region one of the richest in all of Europe. Lombardy has an extremely varied landscape. The North has remained a haven of peace and tranquillity where visitors come to relax either at Lake Como or Lake Maggiore sitting at the feet of the Alps. Whilst further North the towns of Sondrio and Bormio offer incredible views of the beautiful valleys and mountains in the Stelvio National Park. To the South there are large industrial areas but also huge cultivated lands dotted with historic cities and important monuments and works of art.
