Bed and breakfast Lucca
The province of Lucca is situated in the Serchio valley on a fertile plain and includes the regions of Versilia and Garfagnana. A trip to Lucca must include a visit to its 13th century Cathedral, its Amphitheater and the Mansi Palace which houses the National Art Gallery. The famous liberty style villas in and around the Garfagnana area with their palatial gardens are worth a visit. The natural hot springs of Bagni di Lucca are also very popular, the Park of the Apuane Alps has a stunning grotto, the Grotta del Vento, and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, for many centuries ruled by the Estense family, has many interesting monuments to visit. Versilia is a very popular area with several beach resorts which attract many young people who come to enjoy the nightlife in Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio. Typical dishes from this province are minestrone with spelt, bruschetta, soup a la Frantoiana , lamb with olives, local cheeses, "Lardo di Colonnata", roast pork and Tortelli pasta. Famous local sweets are Buccellato, a doughnut-shaped cake, “castagnaccio”, a cake made with chestnut flour, and “necci”, which are similar to crepes but again made with chestnut flour. The olive oil from Lucca is excellent and is used to dress traditional soups like “minestra di magro”, “infarinata” and “garmucia”.
