Mantua The province of Mantua is in South-East Lombardy and borders with the regions of Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and the provinces of Cremona and Brescia. It has a population of over 390,000 and 70 municipalities. The main localities are: Mantova, Castiglione delle Stiviere, Suzzara, Viadana, and Porto Mantovano. Mantua has many important monuments like the Cathedral in Mantua, the Basilica of St. Andrew and the ancient Rotunda of St. Lawrence. The town of Asola also has a cathedral, dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Andrew. In Castiglione delle Stiviere there is a beautiful Baroque church dedicated to St. Aloysius Gonzaga, whilst in the town of Cavriana there is a lovely Romanesque Church. Mantua is host to several popular festivals dedicated to art, literature, music and theater. These festivals include; Sogni d’infanzia (Dreams from childhood), Festivaletteratura, dedicated to literature, the Mantova Music Festival, the European Festival of Traditional and Urban Theater and the international exhibition of Street Art in Castellaro. Mantua also hosts two food festivals, Salumi e Salumi and Mille 2 Formaggi, held annually in April, as well as the Mantua Comics and Games exhibition in March.
