This province is situated in North-West Tuscany and is most famous for its marble. Visitors to the area can visit the quarries, the Civic Museum and of one the many marble artistic workshops. In Massa visit the Malaspina Castle and also the Ducal Palace. Campocecina is home to the Poets’s Quarry, which has poems carved into the rock face, whereas Equi is famous for its Karstic grottos. Typical dishes from this province include “taglierini nei fagioli”, a type of noodles served with beans, “tordelli”, a special type of pasta with meat, and “lasagne intordellate”. The most famous product from this area is undoubtedly the Lardo di Colonnata which is aged in marble basins for six months. Another famous local dish is “testaroli”, a type of pasta with cheese, pesto and olive oil cooked in cast iron pans.
