Bed and breakfast Messina
The province of Messina has many hidden treasures, like Capo d’Orlando, a lovely city situated on a promontory and Frazzanò, in the Nebrodi Mountain range, with its beautiful churches like the church of St. Lawrence and its Abbey of St. Philip of Fragalà. Other places to visit are Patti, for its ancient Roman villa complete with African mosaics, Tindari, which has many Roman remains and relics from the Carthagian civilization and Arab domination. The eruption of Mount Moio many years ago formed the Alcantara Gorges, whilst in Montalbano tourists can visit the Castle of Frederick II of Aragon. Among the many beautiful coasts towns there is Taormina, which has beautiful rocky beaches and also archeological treasures. The Aeolian archipelago can be reached by boat from Milazzo and has many stunning beaches. The islands of Stromboli and Vulcano still register volcanic activity, the islands of Filicudi and Alicudi have truly beautiful landscapes, whilst the island of Panarea is the most popular with tourists along with the islands of Lipari and Salina. Typical dishes from this province are sword fish, “spaghetti al cartoccio”, foil wrapped spaghetti cooked in the oven and served in terracotta dishes. Typical desserts are “pignolata”, glazed meringues, and “pistacchiata”, a cake made from pistachio nuts.
