Bed and breakfast Ogliastra

The new province of Ogliastra was formed in 2005 and is situated between the provinces of Nuoro (to the North-West) and Cagliari (to the South-West) whilst the southern area of the province is on the Tyrrhenian sea. The two largest cities in the province are Tortolì and Lanusei. Archaeological digs have provided evidence that this region was inhabited in the Neolithic era. It was occupied by the Phoenicians and by the Punics in the VII century BC. and was conquered by the Romans a century later. Ogliastra has a beautiful clean sea, many beaches, cliffs, bays, plateaus, plains, woods and lakes. The most beautiful beaches are Perde 'E Pere in the municipality of Cardedu, Is Scoglius Arrubius in Tortolì and the Lido delle Rose in Lotzorai. There are also archaeological parks in Lotzorai and Villagrande and a Nature Park in Perdasdefogu. Nature lovers should also visit the Selene woods in Lanusei, the Forest of Montarbu, the Fico Grotto and the Golgo abyss (the largest in Europe) in Baunei. A visit to the province would not be complete without a trip to the Giants’ Grave (graves built by the Nuragic civilization), the Domus de Janas (types of prehistoric rock cut tombs dating back to the IV century BC) and the menhirs (huge upright stones some as high as 20 meters erected by prehistoric civilizations). Food lovers will enjoy the roast pork, lamb and goat and also the amarettos, biscuits that are typical of the province and are made with almonds, raisins and "vino cotto". An excellent local wine is Cannonau.
