Bed and breakfast Oristano

The river Tirso flows through the province of Oristano which is situated on the Orsitano gulf. The province has many small lakes, lagoons, nature reserves, natural springs and is home to the Cabras and Santa Giusta wet lands, the habitat of pink flamingos and many species of bird like cormorants, hawks and griffin vultures. The Sale Procus wet lands are also an oasis for many different species of animals whilst the volcanic rock massive of Montiferru is an ideal location to go trekking or on nature walks. There are many towns and monuments to visit in the province like the ancient town of Arborea, where you can still see the remains of its medieval city walls and can also visit the millstone of St. Christopher, which dates back to 1291, and the cathedrals of Saint Mary and the Holy Virgin of the Assumption. The largest museum in the province is the Antiquarium Arborense, displaying many finds from the Nuragic era and also from Roman times. A visit to the area would not be complete without first visiting the huge archeological site of Tharros, the nuraghe of Losa and the sanctuary of St. Salvatore. There are also many workshops where skilled craftsmen make hand painted ceramics and hand-made jewelry. Typical dishes from this area include “bottarga” from the town of Cabras, which are dried fish eggs, "red ox" meat and the pear shaped Casizolu cheese.
