Pesaro e Urbino The province of Pesaro-Urbino is the northern most province of the Marche region and borders with Emilia-Romagna. The local economy is largely based on tourism, given its proximity to the the Riviera of Emilia-Romagna, Pesaro and Urbino’s coastline can offer the same service at a lower price. The beaches of Gabicce mare and Pesaro are especially popular. Those looking for a different type of holiday can head to Urbino, a UNESCO site of world heritage. Other sites to visit are the fortresses of Gradara and San Leo, perched on cliffs overlooking the sea they have spectacular views of the coast. Perhaps the most important monuments in this area are the church of St. Gervasius in Mondolfo, the house where Gioacchino Rossini was born in Pesaro and the Ducal Palace in Urbino, all of which are considered national treasures. Nature lovers can instead go to the regional national Parks of Mount San Bartolo and the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Park.
