Pescara The province of Pescara is made up of 46 municipalities with a population of 294,000. The largest city in the province is Pescara which has a population of 120,000. Pescara and the surrounding area have a range of wonderful places to visit and are rich in natural beauty. Visitors come to see the pebbly beaches, the rivers that flow into the Adriatic Sea, the rocky canyons of the Apennines, the Mediterranean pine forests and the beech woods, the sun kissed hills and the soaring mountain peaks. There have also been significant archeological discoveries in the area; the Leopardi Village for example was uncovered near the town of Penne and dates back to the Neolithic era. Remains of an ancient settlement dating back to the Bronze Age have also been found near the Pescara river. Ancient buildings and monuments not to be missed include the Baroque paintings and decorative stuccos inside the church of Madonna of the Cross in the village of Pietranico, the church of Santa Chiara in Città Sant’Angelo and the Government Building in Pescara, which houses countless works of art including some pieces by Francesco Paolo Michetti.
