The province of Pisa lies mainly on the plains with the exception the southern region of the province which is home to the Colline Metallifere (“Metal-bearing Hills”). Pisa is of course most famous for the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Piazza dei Miracoli, but there are many things to do and see in the province. There are many beautiful locations inside the Natural Park of Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciuccoli near the coast. The town of San Giuliano Terme is also a popular destination for its natural hot springs and its many beautiful eighteenth-century villas, monasteries and Romanesque churches. Volterra is also famous for its archeological site and for the art of alabaster carving. The town of Larderello has many volcanic vents. Marina di Pisa is a pretty sea side town. Nature lovers can visit one of the two forests in the province, the Berignone-Tatti forest and the Monterufoli forest, which are home to many different species of animals and plants. The town of Castellina is very famous for its alabaster stone, the town of Chianni is well known for its sulphurous springs, whilst Fauglia is famous for its wines and carpentry.
