Bed and breakfast Siena

Siena The Piazza Del Campo square in the center of Siena is famous the world over. This enormous square is the location of Siena’s famous annual Palio, a medieval horserace which takes place on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August. During the festival, various “contrade” (neighborhoods) in the city race each other on horseback around the square. The province of Siena is also famous for its beautiful hilly, medieval landscape. Pienza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a beautiful town where can you visit the Cathedral, the Museum, the Piccolomini Palace and the Valdorcia Natural Park. Montepulicano is another beautiful medieval town high up in the hills, whilst Chianciano Terme is an ancient town with natural hot springs. San Gimignano is famous for its towers and also for its wine like Vernaccia and San Gimignano DOCG. However, the most famous wine from this province is probably Brunello, produced in Montalcino. The gothic Abbey of St. Galgano near the village of Monticiano is also well worth a visit. Typical dishes from this province include “pici” (large spaghetti made by hand), “ribollita” (a vegetable soup with beans served on toasted bread), roast meats, “cacciagione”, roasted game meat, “cacao pecorino” (a local sheep cheese), “minestraccia” (a soup typical from the Merse Valley made with beans, garlic and sage), locally grown mushrooms, tripe from the Elsa Valley and wild boar from Monticiano. The wines from this province are among the finest in Italy, some examples are Chianti dei Colli Senesi, Chianti Classico, Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Brunello di Montalcino.
