Bed and breakfast Taranto

Taranto Taranto is a rather unique city given that it is divided into two parts: the old town, called Isola, as it sits on an artificial island dating back to the 1400’s, and the new town, built preserving the remains of an ancient necropolis. This town was an important cultural center in Magna Grecia. The main towns in the province of Taranto are: Manduria, famous for its wine, Massafra, Castellaneta, Vinosa, and Massacra, with its "gravine" (very small valleys—similar to canyons but narrower—which are often the product of streamcutting erosion). There are many lovely towns along the coast of Taranto, such as Punta Prosciutto, which has fine sandy beaches, Campomarino, famous for its golden sandy beaches, and Lido Fata Morgana. The ceramics from the town of Grottaglie are also famous thanks to the traditional technique which has been carried on for generations. The town of Martina Franca is also worth a visit to see its characteristic Trulli, round prehistoric huts typical to the region which are to be found outside the town center, unlike the ones in Alberobello that are part of the city center. Taranto has many festivals: each year in the city two different confraternities, the Carmine confraternity and the Addolorata confraternity, celebrate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; from the 23rd to the 30th of August the festival in Grottaglie re-enacts the battle fought against the Turks; the town of Martina Franca celebrates their Festival of the Itria Valleys each year.
