Terni The province of Terni is located in southern Umbria and is characterized by long narrow valleys and rolling hills. Terni is the home of St. Valentine, the famous Saint of lovers, responsible for the “miraculous” marriage of a pagan soldier and a young Christian woman. In Terni the entire month of February is dedicated to St. Valentine with religious ceremonies and musical and theatrical performances. The famous film “Life is Beautiful” by Roberto Benigni was filmed in Terni, in an old chemical plant in Papigno. However, many other films are shoot in Terni’s film studios. The Marmore Waterfalls, the man made waterfalls created by the ancient Romans in 271 BC, are breathtakingly beautiful and are surrounded by woods and grottos. The town of Orvieto has a lovely Gothic Cathedral and the ancient building Palazzo del Popolo. Nature lovers should visit the Pre-Historic Forest of Duranobba whilst the ancient Roman city of Narni attracts a lot of religious tourism for its Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to St. Francis dating back to the fourteenth century. Calvi nell’Umbria is also visited for its Church dedicated to St. Anthony which houses a terracotta crib scene from 1546.
