Bed and breakfast Turin
Since Emmanuel Philibert made Turin the capital of the Duchy of Savoy the city of Turin has been an important city in Italian history, particularly up until the constitution of the Italian Republic but also in later years. Today Turin is Italy’s main industrial centre as it is home to FIAT, Italy’s largest car manufacturer, which has given a certain prestige to the city over the years. The province of Turin is home to the Susa Valley, a popular skiing destination recently re-modernized for the Winter Olympics. Sites to visit include the ancient Convent of St. Michael, perhaps one of the most famous monuments in Piedmont, the Romanesque-Gothic Monastery of St. Antony of Ranverso and the Novalesa Abbey which inspired Umberto Eco’s best-selling book “The Name of The Rose”. The Orco Valley and the Orco creek is a beautiful place to visit, surrounded by green forests and overlooked by the Tre Levanne mountains. Turin is also the Italian capital of chocolate thanks to the annual CioccolaTò chocolate festival where chocolatiers from all over the world come to showcase their work. The town of Finestrelle also holds a lively festival each year where tourists can watch the traditional dance using swords called Spadonari, known as “Bal dâ Sabbre”. Typical dishes from this region include agnolotti “del plin”, a type of ravioli served with mint and barbeque sauce and garnished with grated truffles or “bagna cauda”, an ancient farmer’s recipe which consists of a dip made with oil, anchovies and garlic and is eaten by dipping raw, boiled or roasted vegetables. Turin is also home to Vermouth and breadsticks and most famously Gianduia chocolate.
