Veneto Veneto is one of the most populated regions in Italy. It borders Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige to the West, Austria to the North and the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the North-East, Emilia-Romagna to the South and the South eastern part of the region is on the Adriatic Sea. Veneto is a wealthy region that has such beautiful natural landmarks as the Dolomite mountains, lake Garda (the largest lake in Italy), the Euganei hills, not to mention the splendid architecture to be found in Venice, Verona, Vicenza and Padua. Today Veneto is one of the richest regions in Europe thanks to its many small- and medium- sized businesses. Veneto is also an incredibly popular tourist destination and, together with that of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, has the most varied landscape of any Italian region. Veneto is home to several plains, the rocky peaks of the Dolomites that mark the North-western border of Veneto It faces the Adriatic sea with its ports and beaches, and Lake Garda. It boasts beautiful small towns and grand ancient cities. Typical dishes from this region include “baccalà a la vicentina” (a white fish dish), “fegato a la vicentina” (liver in a white wine and onion sauce), white polenta, pasta with duck ragù, pea risotto and cuttlefish alla veneziana. Amarone, Soave, Prosecco di Conegliano, Bardolino and Recioto di Gambellara are among the excellent wines from this region.
