Bed and breakfast Verbano-Cusio-Ossola
Located between Lake Maggiore, Lake Mergozzo and Lake Orta this province has an extremely varied and beautiful natural landscape. The province extends from the alpine valleys right down to the rolling hills which stand at the foot of Piedmont’s mountain range and is called the gardens of Europe because of its lush vegetation. The area has stunning panoramas, especially around Lake Maggiore with the Alps towering behind and the Borromean Islands , with their myths and legends are particularly lovely. A visit to the area would not be complete without taking a boat ride to see the Angera Fortress and to the towns of Verbania, Stresa and Cannobio. The San Giulio Island in the middle of Lake Orta is also a popular tourist destination. There you can walk around its narrow streets, see its Romanesque buildings and visit the early Christian basilica founded by St. Julian, after whom the island is named, in 390 AD. Legend has it that this island was once terrorized by dragons and that St. Julian crossed the waters to reach the island using only his cloak to slay the dragons and free the island and its people. Walking through the woods you’ll find the Sacred Mount of Orta which is home to many chapels built between 1500 and 1700. The Ossola Valley is situated on a very large flat groove and is home to the Gondo Gorges and the beautiful medieval town of Domodossola. The Vigezzo Valley is also known as the ”Painters Valley” for its beautiful landscapes that change so dramatically with the changing seasons. A great way to explore the valley is by taking a ride on the old train that links Domodossola to Locarno. To the West you can visit the Anzasca Valley standing at the feet of Mount Rosa with its traditional wooden chalets hidden in the hills.
