Bed and breakfast Vercelli

This area was once inhabited by the Cimbrians, an ancient Germanic tribe who were defeated by the Romans lead by Marius in 101 BC. Sarcophaguses , carved glass and funeral offerings have been found in the area and are now on show at the Museum Leone in Vercelli. The province of Vercelli has many ancient churches, buildings and important monuments. Vercelli’s Basilica Of St. Peter is particularly interesting for its gothic architecture. The Cathedral of Vercelli has five naves divided by four rows of monolithic columns and has just one apse facing eastwards. The province of Vercelli is also well known for its natural beauty and is home to Natural Park of Lame del Sesia which offers tourists the opportunity to go walking or horseback riding in its beautiful woods. Also worth a visit are the castles of San Genuario and Moncrivello Castle. Higher up in the hills in the vineyards of Gattinara there are stunning views of the surrounding landscape, the Varesina Valley, the Sacred Mount of St. Ann of Montrigone near Borgosesia and, further North, the Sacred Mountains, the Nature Reserve of the Sacred Mount of Varallo. Typical dishes from this area include the agnolotti , a type of typical pasta famous throughout Piedmont and anchovies with “i bagnet vert’, a green sauce made with garlic, chilli and parsley.
