Vicenza The province of Vicenza is small but very populated. The province includes the Venetian plain, which is part of the Padan Plain, the Vicenza Pre-alps and the Venetian Alps (to the North), Leogra Valley, Lagno Valley, Chiampo Valley (to the West) and the Berici Hills to the South. The local economy is based on industry (especially the textile sector and leather production), marble mining, ceramics and jewelry production. Tourism is also important to the local economy. The most popular destinations are the Tableland of Asiago, Recoaro Terme, the Berici Hills, Vicenza and the area around the Palladian villas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Vicenza is the largest city in the province and has beautiful churches and many buildings mainly designed by Andrea Palladio. Other cities include Bassano del Grappa, an ancient city with a 42 meter high Civic Tower, the Church of St. Francis (in Gothic-Roman style), the Ceramic Museum and the Municipal Art Gallery. Schio which has an 18th century Cathedral and is home to the Neo-Classical Da Schio Palace. The town of Valdagno has a beautiful countryside and Thiene is home to the beautiful villa Da Porto-Colleoni in late-Gothic style and an 18th century Cathedral which houses paintings by important Venetian artists.
